The Ford Mustang : 53 Years Later

Evolution of one of the most popular cars ever manufactured

The Ford Mustang, the flagship pony car from Ford has been the only car around for more than 50 years. Back in 1965 when it debuted on the showroom floor, and later in dealerships across the United States.

The Ford Mustang was admired among the population. It had a very strong and throaty V6 and was a 2 seater. It had a 4 speed manual transmission, or a 3 speed automatic. Ford spent a while working on this car, from prototypes to the final product It is considered a true American muscle car

The Shelby GT350 was their model for the track, it was more of a racing muscle car than a normal everyday driver. The Shelby came with a 3.7L V8 that was even throatier than its V6 brother. This extra power allowed it to be a designated track car, but is also street legal. The design was also more aerodynamic than the original Mustang, having better curves, a spoiler, and front as well as rear splitters for better downforce. They also reduced the weight by removing seats, unnecessary parts, etc.. Pirelli summer track tires are also standard for the best performance.

“There’s still that muscle car presence.’’

Says Mr. Reeves, who teaches math here at Triton.

As a kid, Reeves grew up with the original Mustangs, he says they are the best cars of the time they came out. His sister’s friend got a 65’ and he rode in the back of it and still had a lot of fun. After 1969 they didn’t really do much with it though, they turned it into an economy car in the 70’s. The next really improved model, as Reeves recalls was the 88’. It’s the car one of his friends ended up getting. With all this in his mind, Reeves says they haven’t really strayed far from the original design, but according to Reeves, it’s one of those cars you should get when you are not young. When you are older and have more time to mess around.

‘’ They still look pretty similar.”

Says Mr. Dube, who teaches the hands on tech classes. Dube drove the mid model mustang II that was the 70’s ‘’economy’’ mustang as they called it. It was the least liked of all the mustangs. Dube said it was still a very fun car to drive.

When asked what he thought about the newer mustangs, Dube says, compared to the older ones, he was much more interested in talking about the old ones. He said that the front was more rounded, and the old was more square which was what he had preferred. He also said that the new one looks a lot like a camaro.

Dube said if he could have the newer Mustang with all the gadgets, or the older one with low miles that you can fix up yourself, that’s the way to go.

‘I’d go for the 65’ easy”

 

Karantonis has more of an average take on what the mustang is like, he hasn’t had much experience with the particular car.  

He says that the 65 is more iconic and more of that go to dream car that you’d want. His brother’s first car was a 68 mustang that was super beat up and somehow passed inspection. He’s also a Jeep guy so the mustang was still like riding on a huge cloud, or even a slip n’ slide.

The 65 Ford Mustang will always be one of the most iconic cars ever, at least to the people that have been interviewed, and Ford Mustang lovers across america
