Simple Car Upgrades

If you’re looking to keep your car in good condition then here are some easy ways to keep it nice along with personalizing it however you want to. If you’re planning on selling your car car later on down the road it might be a good idea to protect it from any wear and tear to keep its resale value up. There’s also a few things you can do to increase the fuel economy of your car.
There are some simple, cheap, and effective accesories you can get to protect the interior of your car. Things like seat covers to prevent getting any stains or rips in your seats. A steering wheel cover to prevent any wear on it. Floor mats will keep your floors looking nice and prevent any stains or burns, especially if you spill anything in your car it’s a good idea to get some. Trunk or bed liner is another good idea to protect them from scratches or wear and tear.

If you’re looking more to personalize or upgrade your car there’s a bunch of other things you can do.

  • There’s simple things like putting fuzzy dice on your rear view mirror or the bobble-head hula-girl on your dashboard.
  • Alot of people love interior LED lighting, one of the coolest ways to brighten up your ride. Maybe get some that match the color scheme of your car if it has one. Another easy way to start a color scheme for your car too. Especially if you get the ones that can switch manually switch to any color even set them to flash, strobe, fade, switch through all the colors, etc.
  • Depending on your preference you might choose to get racing pedals to make your ride more sporty.
  • If you have a standard car you could get a custom shift knob and shifter boot.
  • Some choose to get interior vinyl over any plastic in the interior of your car. You could also use stickers and ‘sticker-bomb’ your car.
  • Most people like to listen to music in their car and sometimes the stock stereo system just doesn’t cut it. Getting aftermarket speakers and a radio will easily boost the quality and clarity of the audio in your car. Maybe you’re a “basshead” and love to hear to bass. Hook up your ride with a pair of 12 inch subwoofers and you’ll thank me later.
  • An aux cord is another fantastic idea so you can listen to your own playlist instead of the radio unless you chose to get an aftermarket radio that happened to have bluetooth. Most new cars come stock with a Bluetooth radios.

You might care more about the outside of your car and how it looks. Maybe you want to change the color of it. Instead of paying close to or more than a couple thousand dollars you could spend about a grand and plasti-dip your car. Plasti-dip is the cheaper yet still sort of expensive to the young adults wallet. Plasti-dip not only helps you change the color of your car but it also acts as a protective coating against moisture, acids, abrasion, corrosion and skidding/slipping. It also provides a comfortable and controlled grip. Plasti-dip is a specialty rubber coating that air dries just like any other paint. It can also be easily removed by peeling it off if you ever want to change the color again or re-due it. Plasti-dip can cost anywhere from roughly $200 for a basic color like black to upwards of $800 plus for any pearlescent or hypershift colors. You also will have to pay a shop to paint it on your car are you do not know how to do it yourself.
After that you could get new headlights or headlight covers. Getting HID headlights look good while also lighting up the road more with them being high intensity discharge lamps. HID’s can run you about $100 or more for the headlight kit and then you have to instal them yourself or pay a shop to do it for you. A grille insert is a cool way to change the look of your car. It’ll cost you anywhere from $30 to $300 depending on the material they used to make it and the type of car you have. A BMW grille is obviously going to cost you more than a Honda Civic grille.
Now to the performance part of your car. Getting an aftermarket cold air intake gives you the chance of having an increase of not only horsepower but fuel economy and performance of your vehicle. It also gives a better sound of your vehicle letting you hear the engine more. An aftermarket cold air intake can be anywhere from $30 to $300 plus depending on what you are going for. If you are looking to gain more horsepower you might be looking into nicer air intakes from COBB, CorkSport, or K&N. Getting rid of any roof racks will give your car a better air stream allowing your car to move faster. New spark plugs are always a good idea. New spark plugs will help give your car better fuel economy and help start up easier. Spark plugs are one of the cheapest parts you can get for your car. They could be as little as $1.50 a piece or again if you are going for performance you might choose to go for the high end racing plugs that could be about $10-$30 for one. Having low rolling resistant tires will also help give you better fuel economy. If your tires are starting to look kind of bald you should think about getting new ones. Tires can be $100 to even $800 or a grand per tire depending on what you are looking for.
