Gia Sico, Staff Writer
Hi! My name is Gia Sico and I’m a junior at Triton High School.
During the fall, you’re likely to catch me outside playing field hockey with our varsity team or working in the customer service booth at the local Rowley Market Basket. I also participate in a fairly new program here at Triton called the Jr/Sr Viking program. If you know anything about the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America organization, it’s similar to that. Once a month we go to the elementary schools within the district and spend time with a select group of students after school. We play many different kinds of games in hopes of getting the younger vikes to open up to us high schoolers. For them to learn that they’re not alone. I feel like the program really shows who I am as a person, and my enjoyment for giving back to my community.
I think Triton Voice is really important to our school. It’s clear that students who don’t take journalism enjoy the papers because it’s a chance for their interests and voices to be heard and written from a relatable point of view. The fact that us students are almost entirely in charge of the Friday paper is awesome.
In all honesty, I’m not taking this class because I am an aspiring journalist. I don’t see myself having any sort of future journalism career whatsoever. I take this class because the newspaper is pretty cool and I enjoy writing. I really hope to write and publish some good articles this year that the majority of the student body will enjoy.
I definitely plan to go to college. I have been heavily leaning towards studying to become a social worker or psychologist of some sort. I really just want to help people. I feel like even as a junior, so close to the end of my high school career, being asked what I want to be or what my “plan” is after school ends, is such a hard question to answer. It’s crazy to think that at 17 and 18 years old we have to make such massive decisions about our futures.
