A lot of people, whether it’s influencers or even just average teenagers, have a look they are trying to achieve; for Christmas, it’s a little different. Scrolling through TikTok, many influencers are trying the Grinch x ColourPop collab—glittery lips, bold greens, and festive looks everywhere. But with all the hype, does the collection actually deliver, or is it just fun to watch?
Triton Voice Reporters Willow Murnahan and CJ Weisenstein tested whether these products deserve to take up all our feeds. The products are part of a collaboration with the makeup brand ColourPop. It’s sold by ColourPop.com and at retail chains such as Ulta Beauty, Target, and Amazon. It features designs and colors relating to characters from the movie, The Grinch. The products we will be reviewing are the Change of Heart Highlighters, Liked Christmas A Lot eyeshadow stix, and the Who-Hash body glitter gel.
“I don’t think they’ll be too heavy or sticky,” Murnahan said. “I know a lot of reviews say Colourpop is good with their texture.”
Over time, Triton Voice Reporter, Weisenstein, learned it’s not just the aesthetic of the makeup that matters but also the practicality of it. Is it wearable? This review helps Weisenstein show whether this is a valuable collab to buy or if it’s just one of many other cliche collabs by Colourpop and other brands like it.
“At a sales view, it was high ranking as soon as it hit, with a favorite being the who-hash glitter body gel, resembling the canned food from the movie,” said Weisenstein. “I believe it won’t be too special, as I don’t use Colourpop as much, but it’s definitely cute and a great addition to Christmas.”
This collaboration’s highlighters, known as the “Change of Heart Highlighters,” come in two different shades: “Grew 3 Sizes,” which is a pink-lavender shine, and “2 Sizes 2 Small,” a copper-orange shine. They are on the Colour Pop website listed as $16 normally, but $11.20 on sale. However, they retail at Ulta for $16. When trying, it had a squishy consistency, but also a powder-like creamy texture when simply swatched. Murnahan does not believe the pigment shows as much, but Weisenstein disagrees, stating that she “likes the shade “Grew 3 Sizes” in comparison to “2 Sizes 2 Small.” ” We are rating this a 5/10 only for the fact of the packaging and how pigmented it is. The colors were added to the review as well.
“Why is it squishy?” Asked Murnahan. This was due to Weisenstein pointing out the soft, squishy texture of the highlighters when pressed down.
This kit comes with two eyeshadow sticks in the shades Whoville, a fluorescent Pink-Lavender, and Who stockings, a fluorescent bronze-rose gold. The kit is 16 dollars, 11.20 on sale, on the Colourpop website. At Ulta, it retails for 16 dollars and isn’t currently on sale at the moment. The consistency was rated a 10 out of 10 by both Weisenstein and Murnahan, as it “glided very smoothly onto the skin.” The glitter is present in various lightings, and both shades are very pigmented. Some people do not like certain colors, though. Although she was obsessed with the shade Who Stockings, she disliked Whoville so much that she gave it away to a friend immediately. Getting a solid 6/10 overall from both testers!
“The brown is awesome, the pink one is ehh,” Said Murnahan.
Who-Hash Body Glitter Gel was one of the most popular of the collaborations, selling out instantly in the Seabrook Ulta. It sells for $7.70 on Colour Pop. However, it sells at Ulta for $5.49, a lower price than the website prices. This was Murnahan’s favorite product by far, listing it as “very smooth” and “pretty.” The spread is relatively even, which is agreed between both testers. And the shimmer is really pretty, resembling snowflakes when you look closer at the glitter. However, Weisenstein did not fully see the functionality of it; she enjoyed the tiny snowflakes as well as the low price per ounce in the jar. Murnahan rated it a 10 out of 10 all across the board, but Weisenstein rated it a solid 3/10.
“I consider myself to be pickier than others with beauty as I’ve learnt so much about it already,” said Weisenstein. “Especially when it comes to body care, but for people with sensitivity issues, glitter body products do not seem the most pleasing.”
Regardless of our opinion, don’t hesitate to try it for yourself. When it comes to makeup, it’s each to their own. Some may have different style and texture preferences for makeup than others, and that’s alright. If anything that was a negative was a positive for you, that’s okay, take it as a reason to try it out.
