Sixth grade, elementary school student, Ryan Nolan, was told that Mrs.Gilbert was changing positions at Salisbury Elementary School, so there was a need for a new sixth grade teacher. Nolan was anxious to find out who he would be having instead.

“When I found out who I got for a teacher, and never heard the name that’s how I knew she was new. ” Said Nolan.

Nolan is not alone, as there is a total of 40 new staff members throughout the Triton Regional School district for the 2017-2018 school year. The teachers are off to a new start and students may be surprised to find that their new teachers are fitting right in.

“If I wasn’t aware that we would be receiving a new anatomy teacher from last year, I wouldn’t have known that she was new because since the first day she has been very formal and professional,” Said Junior Maggie Tardiff, a student in Dr. Ellen Moore’s anatomy class.

Another surprise student, freshman Meaghan Riccio, was faced with the challenge of a new teacher as well and stated, “I would not have known that Mr.Enos was a new teacher, unless my older sister Maggie informed me because he is very organized and seems to have a lot of experience.”

Many difficulties are faced by new teachers in the school district as they have to deal with a new location, unfamiliar faces, and inexperience in this career. As hard as it is for teachers to adapt to a new school, it can also be equally hard for the students who have to adapt to new teaching styles.

“ She always switches things up and we always do different things each day, but I think it is a good class. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in anatomy and physiology, since she really knows what she’s talking about,” Said Tardiff.

In addition to Tardiff, Riccio also enjoys her new teacher as well as she said,” So far, I like him a lot. I like the way he teaches and he explains things thoroughly. He makes class fun.”

With lots of new staff members in the district, there are a lot of new personalities introduced as well. Here is what some students have to say about their new teachers personality.

Riccios stated, “Mr.Enos is not very strict and he is quite calm. He allows students to have freedom and he listens to all of us individually. He is very kind.”

“Compared to all my teachers I’ve had she’s pretty average. She is very very organized and very nice. She’s very chill and she lets us talk  to our friends when we work.  ” Added Nolan.

As the school year continues on, students are already faced with critiques for their new teachers as personalities clash.

Tardiff explains that as much as she enjoys the class, this is what she what advice she gives to Moore, for potential  changes for next years students.

“Don’t get me wrong she is a very good teacher, but she does have very long lectures, so maybe if she shortened them a little bit or if the lectures were more class discussion oriented, it would be a little easier to participate more  in what we are learning her class.”

In order to for these new teachers to gain more experience, students explain how these teachers could improve their class for next year.

“What she could do to be a better teacher is to let us have more fun in class. Like do more activities and games with what we are learning, and give us less work.”  Said Nolan.

The new staff throughout the Triton Regional School District has so far fit in along with the other staff members. They are excited to continue the school year and help watch the children grow physically and mentally.
