Too Early for Seasons Greetings

Texas family told to take down Christmas decorations

With snow falling and fall foliage, it is now the awkward transition between autumn and winter. Though it’s not as much snowy as it is cold, families worldwide are eager to put up seasonal decorations. Whether it’s an animatronic reindeer, a menorah, or a kinara, people can’t help but get ready for the holidays. However, down south it’s much warmer, and Texans may not be so excited to show their Christmas spirit quite yet.

Recently, the Simonis family of San Antonio received a letter from Diamond Association Management & Consulting on Nov. 4 ordering the family to take down their Christmas decorations.

The Simonis family put up their decorations on November 1st, the day after people were taking their jack-o-lanterns inside and putting out their cornucopias. The decoration in question was Santa, his reindeer, and a snowman. This reporter questions why the family insisted on putting up the decorations earlier than usual.

A San Antonio family was instructed by the Homeowners Association to take down their Christmas decor

“Because probably in two more weeks, I’m not going to be able to build all this,” said Claudio Simonis. Noticeably eight months pregnant, she stated that she most likely wouldn’t have the ability to put up the decorations if the family were to comply with the letter.

“We’re not going to do it,” said Nick Simonis, Claudia’s husband. “We’re not going to be forced by the HOA to take it down.”

The family stated that they should not be forced to comply with the letter, on the grounds that they were never told when an appropriate time to decorate would be.

Nobody seems to be able to agree, and those on either side of the debate are quite adamant, so we took to social media to ask: do the holidays start the moment the scares end? Or should the decor wait until after turkey day? Of the 64 people who participated in the poll, 23% said that decorations should go up after Halloween, while the majority, 77%, said that the decorations should wait until the turkey’s been mucked.
