Triton’s Baseball Team

Triton’s baseball team battling back to an even 4-4 record

The Teams rough start to the beginning of the year does not mean the team is out of the season. It gave them the motivation to play better and put some wins under their belt.

Triton junior (and starting Varsity pitcher) Andrew Maiuri states,

“It was a tough start at the beginning of the season. We were acting soft, like scared of the ball, the competition, and we just made really bad plays.”

Baseball is a sport of split second decisions, and amazing hand eye coordination.  Tritons varsity baseball team is on a hot winning streak right now, starting off the season with zero wins and four losses.

The Baseball team went in to the season with high hopes and heads high because of their starting line of returning players, such as, Andrew Maiuri (junior), Cam Gilroy (senior), Tyler Godfrey (junior), Jack Tummino (senior), Devan Parsons (senior), Jared Beradino (junior), and Kyle Odoy (sophomore). along with newcomers for varsity including Cael Kohan (sophomore), Will Gundrum (junior), and Cody Wishart (junior).

Their high hopes got the better of them and before they knew it the season started and they were staring at record of 0-4 right off the bat. But the team boosted their morale, found their mojo and battled back for a winning streak.

Maiuri shed the light for those who haven’t been to a game yet why they had a rough start. Once they got back in their groove and shook off the rust from the previous season they started making smarter plays with the ball pitching better, fielding better, hitting better and being able to put some wins under their belt on the battle back to an even record.

Brad Killion is a Junior at Triton who hears about the baseball team frequently and sometimes wishes to go back and try out. He states,

“ Yeah I miss baseball, it was a really fun sport that I loved to play, and hearing this underdog story of the baseball team battling back to 500 makes me want to tryout Senior year as well”

Despite the teams tough schedule losing against power houses like Masco, North Reading, and Lynnfield they battled through to beat teams like Rockport, Newburyport, and Danvers to battle back to a 3-3 record. The team has high hopes for the future games of the season. Hoping to get the 10 wins to get into states the team is itching for more wins. They have the momentum, lets see if they can keep the ball rolling.
