This melting pot known as New York City.

The city that never sleeps: New York City. It’s a place where you can do extravagant activities 24/7 and never get bored. The city has about 8.6 million people from all over the world so many races and ethnicities live there. According to World Population Review there are approximately 800 different languages spoken there.  The best part about NYC is since so many different ethnicities live there, you can try foods from all over the world. However, some people just don’t understand the hype of NYC. The Triton Voice set off to investigate another student’s opinion.

Lydia Crowley, a senior at Triton, feels that NYC is busy but isn’t overrated. “Honestly, it depends on how you view it,” said Crowley. “I view it as an amazing city full of opportunities and endless things to do and so many different people to meet. But I can see how people can see it as ‘overrated’ because of things tourists like to do, such as going to Times Square and going to Instagram famous restaurants in Manhattan. It’s much more than an ‘overrated’ city.  You just have to get to know it better.”

The top places to visit in NYC,according to the U.S News, are Central Park, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and Broadway. People come from all over the world to attend a Broadway play.

Alice Miller, who grew up in Salt Lake City, has lived in Brooklyn for over 55 years and absolutely loves it there. “I love meeting new people here because you meet people from all over the world and they still practice their traditions in addition to adopting American traditions.”

Even though Mrs. Miller loves the city, she still has dislikes about it.

“I really don’t like how people throw their garbage on the street thinking that other people are just going to clean it up for them,” said Miller.

The people who think that NYC is “overrated” or “hyped up” are the people who don’t go out and explore the amazing opportunities that the city has to offer, said Miller.

Although I personally know that NYC has lots of litter throughout the city it is still a marvelous place. Going out and visiting a popular location can be expensive but in NYC you can go to amazing museums for free. One of my favorite places to visit in the city is the American Museum of Natural History. This museum is gigantic. This museum is 2,000,000 square feet and has 45 permanent exhibition halls in addition a planetarium and library. There’s such a wide range of exhibits you can see there. It goes from learning about space to learning about different types of animals that live on land or are aquatic animals. Also what I notice there all of the different people that come to visit that museum. I heard all of these different languages throughout the building.

Even though there is some negatives to the city that never sleeps, overall this city is full of excitement and adventures everyone should experience.
