Schloarships

What kind of money is out their and how do you get it?

Matt Toppi, Staff Writer

Scholarships are important to anyone applying for college, especially those in their senior year. A big misconception about them is that scholarships are only given to students with stellar grades, but this is wrong. Even small amounts of money will be a huge help when having to pay for college.

Sometimes scholarships are directed to a specific group of people such as women in engineering who are going into college soon. This is because of the big push for woman to go to college for engineering due to the large gender ratio in the occupancy.

You can also find scholarships on websites that require you to write a short essay or fill out some kind of survey. These are very helpful because they can all add up very quickly.

If you are in search of scholarships you can:

  1. Contact the financial aid offices at the colleges you plan to apply to.
  2. Go to the high school guidance office and ask about the scholarships they promote or suggest.

  1. Look up the US Department of Labor free scholarship search tool.
  2. Look into popular foundations, companies, religious groups and local businesses.
  3. Talk to your employer or parent’s employer. Most large companies have scholarships they give out.
