The warm, fresh taste of bread coming out of your own oven is an unbeatable taste. Store-bought sourdough is still great, but something about making your own is like nothing else!
The warm smell of fresh bread fills the air, simple and familiar to most. Whether it’s soft or has a nice crunchy crust or that perfect spot in between, bread has been one of the most go-to foods since the BC era! I compared prices, taste, presentation, texture, and the color of each to see what is really the best.
These days, bread has a very mixed reputation. Some people will say it’s unhealthy, packed with carbs, or something to normally avoid; if you’re trying to eat, rather clean bread would be something to avoid. But despite all the opinions, bread still shows up EVERYWHERE. From cafeterias of all ages, your own lunchboxes, and used with your everyday meals. All in all, it’s not good or bad for its own reasons; it depends more on how you use it. With all the negative talk about bread, it continues to be one of the most common foods around the world, and one of the most popular comfort foods
Bread is one of the oldest staple foods in the world. People have been baking so many versions of bread, over thousands and thousands of years, and show up in countless different places ( countries and cultures ). In many traditions, bread symbolizes community and generosity. Bread is used at ceremonies, shared at family meals, or passed around at celebrations. But has always had a bigger meaning than just food to some people
When holidays come around, bread plays a huge factor, and a bigger role than some may think. From special holiday loaves to rolls on the dinner table, it is always part of the tradition. Something that makes bread so unique is how flexible it is; you can toast it, bake it, stuff it, or even shape it into pretty much anything. It has a long history, which means cultures have their own types and a normal traditional style. No matter what culture or how it’s served, it’ll always find its way into a moment
Looking at prices from the Market Basket bakery, The Fresh Flour, and the Market Square Bakehouse, and products from house-made sourdough, they are all reasonably priced for the loaf you receive. At the bakery in Market Basket, the loaf of sourdough was $4.29, at the Fresh Flour, it came out to be around $10.00, for the loaf at the Market Square, it was around $8.00, and for the product to make it at home, it cost about $5.00.
Triton Student, Julia Hutchinson says, “When I tried all the breads, the sourdough that was made at home was way better than the others that I tried. “
Comparing the taste to all these may surprise you. The Market Basket bakery sourdough is okay; it’s plain in taste, and the center pieces aren’t soft. The fresh flour is the most expensive out of all the ones that I have tested, but the price doesn’t let you down. The bread is fresh; they make it as you’re walking in, but for 10 dollars you get a fresh loaf, and it’s delicious. The market square is also pretty expensive, and the taste didn’t seem too fresh. To me, it wasn’t worth the price we were getting. And for the homemade one, for just around 5 dollars, and if you know how to cook it right, there is nothing that can beat the taste of fresh homemade sourdough.
Another Triton student, Michael H, said that sourdough isn’t my favorite; if it’s there, then I’ll eat it, but I won’t go out of my way to get it to eat. “
Triton student Anthony Russo IV said, “ I only like white bread. I’ve had it a couple of times, but it wasn’t good to me. “
Overall, bread is more than the health debates, the traditions, and/or the endless ways you can make and slice it. It’s a food that manages to stay important from ancient history all the way into our current school day lunches. It’s familiar, reliable, and some now still special, no matter how many times we eat it. Whether you can see it as a comfort food, a cultural symbol, or just something that makes a holiday meal complete, bread has its place on the table. As long as that warm fresh smell keeps misting through the air, I feel its clear bread will continue to grow and stay a favorite among everybody.
