School Uniforms are Back

The Triton School Committee is toying with the idea of school uniforms as a study shows significantly improved test scores.

BYFIELD MA – Most public schools do not have a school uniform, however “a study composed by Virginia Draa of Youngstown State University found a positive correlation between uniform and the improvement in graduation, attendance, and behavior rates among 6 big city Ohio schools.” The school committee has been working on a school uniform for many months and they have decided that it is within the students best interests that the uniforms be put into place most likely for next school year. Having a school uniform benefits all students by reducing bullying, social pressures, and it improves concentration in the classroom.

Some students like the freedom of being able to dress how they want, within the schools dress code. When a Triton Voice reporter asked a group of students their thoughts on the uniforms, the group was divided. Some students said they wouldn’t mind having a uniform, but others strongly disagreed with the idea.

The school uniform for gentlemen will consist of khakis, dress shirt, and nice shoes. The school uniform for the ladies will consist of either khakis or a skirt (below the knees), a dress shirt, and nice shoes.

“The uniforms should create a more positive learning environment for all students. This uniform eliminates the showing of excessive skin such as shoulders that are very distracting to the work environment of students,” says Ms. Dawe.
