Boston: Where Sports Happen

Eric Desprez, Staff Writer

Throughout the last year of professional sports, the teams that represent the city of Boston have gone on a roller coaster ride through the ranks of their season. After a rebound season from rebuilding the Celtics are on a quest to prove they are playoff material.

The Celtics play game three of their Washington series tonight in Washington at 8:00 p.m. eastern time on CSN or TNT.

With multiple disappointing factors of the past year, of course besides the Patriots, the hope for the next Boston championship lays in the Celtics hands. After a convincing game two victory they are looking to advance to the conference finals after multiple complications to start the playoffs. Only one day before the first round started, Celtics star Isaiah Thomas was given word that his sister had died in a car crash near his home town. As if deciding to play in this series was not hard enough, the Celtics dropped both games at home, losing the home court advantage they had fought for all year.

“Honestly I was confident even after losing both games at home,” said sophomore Shane Hill.

But even though it was a rocky beginning, fans are happy that the Celtics now hold the advantage strongly. And many are still optimistic about a championship due to their history. In 2008 the first round series for the Celtics went to seven games and many were beginning to doubt the team, but they rallied the rest of the playoffs and won the NBA Title. So as the first round commences and the intensity rises, Boston fans hold on for the ride in hope of a championship run.

“Hey, if the Celtics pulled it out in 2008, why not now?” said Wasif Shawman, after speaking with Triton Voice.

Multiple businesses need to be put into place for this team to arise amongst the NBA’s best. Of course LeBron James and his Cavaliers team is favored to win the eastern conference and Golden State is an all star packed team, but both seem to forget that the Celtics beat them both in the regular season. Even though the Cavaliers only fell to them once, Boston still looked very strong in the other three games. And as for Golden State, the Celtics split the series with them and in the game they won they held them to their lowest points average all year at 86.

Shawman also commented on the Celtics being amongst the best saying, “I don’t think we can beat Cleveland or Golden State, but I think that we could make it a tough series for either of them.”

Now that the Celtics have taken down the Bulls after a miraculous four game turn around, and beaten the Wizards in the first two games, the question really is, is this the team that can finish off the Wizards and really take it to either Cleveland or Toronto in the Conference Finals? With recent performances from Jae Crowder and Kelly Olynyk, it seems like the Celtics are all of the sudden the team to beat. And of course Isaiah Thomas is leading the way but Al Horford is finally stepping up and earning the max contract that Boston pays him. Currently Horford is averaging 16 points 7 assists and 9 rebounds per game. Only LeBron James is averaging any numbers of the same relevance. This Celtics team is now a threat to be reckoned with and is hunting down the Larry O’brien trophy.
