“The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”

Brutal Winters in Massachusetts

The+Most+Wonderful+Time+of+the+Year

With winter  just around the corner, some Triton students are saying that they want to just go back to summer, and some are saying they want to live in a winter wonderland.

Over the past couple years, winter was getting gradually worse with storms the closer spring crept. Boston.com reported that last year was going to be a warmer winter than most. They were right up until the end of December when the wind chill dropped, snow storms kept kids from going to school, and summers were shortened.

Living in Massachusetts residents will have to encounter the frigid winter that most don’t encounter living in the Midwest or the South. A lot of people embrace the fact that these are below-freezing temperatures. According to www.currentresults.com, in December the average snowfall is nine inches, January has a average snowfall of 12.9 inches.

Triton Junior Maggie Bowen says she hates winter.

“I’m more of an 80-90 degree weather person. It’s cold, dark, and sad. Said Bowen. I also hate how in the morning I have to wake up, go outside and start my car just to warm it up so I can drive it.”

People living in Massachusetts know the facts about how cold it gets up in the North East.

“ My birthday’s December 10th so I was practically born in an igloo because of how cold it was. Said Bridget Tucker,” that’s the only reason I don’t get cold; its because I’ve been used to it literally ever since I’ve been born.”

The ones who love winter, love partly because of the sports they play or watch. Hockey, basketball, football, skiing, it’s the only thing people look forward to doing in the frigid winters of the North. Although the white scenery makes it look like something out of a fairy tale nobody will take the time to stop and enjoy it because it’s too cold and they have too much things to do.

Triton junior Andrew Valianti shows how tough winter can get.

“ I like winter and all but its just so hard to juggle everything all at once, between basketball practice and games, school work, midterms, family, and holidays, sometimes it just gets to be too much,” said Valianti.
