Triton High School’s 2018 freshman class has just begun their first year of high school. Different answers will be said when you ask about how their years of high school went. Some say scary and overwhelming, others say it was one of the greatest things they’ve ever experienced.

A few selected students from this year’s freshmen class explained what their first impression of High school was like.

To help the incoming freshmen classes, the Triton staff thought of ways to make it easier for freshmen to find their way around. Triton’s staff created labels for the hallways to help the freshmen navigate their way through the school in a more efficient way. In addition, Triton High School also changed their schedule to the now called “Waterfall” schedule which was created to align their schedule with the middle school teachers.

Every year the Triton staff is coming up with new ways to help newcomers be less confused when they are trying to get used to the building. Most freshmen say that the labeled hallways helped then figure things out a bit faster than they would have without them.

Freshmen at Triton High School shared how they felt about High School so far this year. Kylie Eaton, a new high schooler who is part of the football team said her first impression of high school was, “really stressful and chaotic”.

Janelle Lanphear, also a freshmen at Triton High School this year says her first impression of high school was, “ really stressful and time consuming”.

Josephine Schofield, a player on Triton High School’s volleyball team says that her start to freshman year wasn’t too bad. She states, “I liked that there was more freedom, and the teachers are nicer, but its still boring.”

“Scary”, some freshmen answered when they were asked this question. Was it intimidation by upperclassmen, or because there was a lot more to get used to? There were many variations of answers throughout the freshmen class.

Mia Beradino, also a freshman this year says, “It was different, it was kind of confusing at first getting places. Now I’ve figured it out.” Not only was she confused about where to go, but the order of the schedule confused others also. “ The first and second lunch thing confused me too, it’s just a lot different than eighth grade, its less structured but you have a lot more freedom.”

To help freshmen when they first come to the high school, students could ask any upperclassmen or staff to help them figure out their way around. Junior Abbie Magee had advice for freshmen and how they can ease into the high school life. “ Stay on the right side of the hallway because there is always crowds of people in the middle and people get really irritated when they’re trying to get to class. Also, definitely stay on top of your work and don’t procrastinate because it will build up by the end of the week and you’ll get wicked stressed out and not do your best.”

This can happen to anyone, but it’s always better to be prepared and know beforehand.
