Last friday, march 30th, 2018, New York rapper Rich the Kid released his debut solo album “The World is Yours”. The fourteen track album includes five solo songs as well as nine featured tracks with features from artists such as Quavo, Offset, Khalid, and Future. The album includes three previously released singles: Plug Walk, New Freezer, and Early Morning Trapping. With Plug Walk, and New Freezer both on the Billboard top 100, Rich the Kid’s new album has high hopes.

Triton Senior, Henrik Ernst, said “I was very excited when Rich dropped the record. There was a lot of hype for this one and I bet the majority of kids will be bumping this album in the next month or so.”

The album varies in musical attributes. There are a few melodic songs such as Drippin featuring Chris Brown and Too Gone featuring Khalid. These songs focus on a catchy melodic chorus that isn’t as “hard” as some of the other songs. Even though there are a couple of soft songs, the album contains so called “slaps”. A slap is a song that has a loud deep beat as well as hard lyrics that match the slapping beat. The most “slapping” song on the album by popularity is Lost It featuring Offset and Quavo. This song features two of the most successful rappers in the industry right now. The song provides a catchy rhythm and chorus that makes you feel “as one” with the beat. The most controversial song on the album is the last track titled Dead Friends. Rich leaked this song a month before he dropped his album. Stating that it is a diss track to Lil Uzi Vert who is also a successful growing rapper. Rich took Lil Uzi’s famous XO Tour Life chorus that says “All my friends are dead” and titled his solo song Dead Friends mocking Lil Uzi’s fame. According to hiphopdx.com, “The World is Yours” has sold 6,413 in pure sales but has around 74,278,829 in views on streaming services. Due to applications such as apple music, soundcloud, and spotify, the majority of fame rappers are achieving is from streams rather than album sales. “The World is Yours” is currently #2 on the Billboard top 200 albums and is expected to grow in sales.
