Hawking’s Formula used to find the Entropy of a Black Hole

Stephen Hawking, the great physicist of our time, has passed at the age of 76. Hawking accomplished many things throughout his life and pioneered many scientific discoveries.

In his younger schooling Hawking was not the most academically successful person, that changed when he entered his undergraduate classes as he quickly became extremely successful. He found classes at his school, Oxford, to be very easy and he sat though classes bored. After passing his test he moved onto cambridge to continue his education. It was in this school that Hawking developed the disease “ALS” this was a motor neurone disease that robbed him of his ability to stand and speak. It was predicted that Hawking was to pass in two years. This left him in a state of deep depression. It was found however, that Hawking’s disease progressed much slower. This allowed him to continue working and let him live to the age of 76. According to physicsoftheuniverse.com, Hawking is best known for his theories regarding black holes, both applying to them the laws of thermodynamics, and identifying the subatomic particle known as ‘Hawking radiation’.

Student Lily Fulford speaks about how she felt about Hawkings death: “I have been familiar with Stephen Hawking’s work since I was a child and his death is extremely saddening to me, although it is quite amazing that he lived as long as he did with his disease. His contributions to the scientific community has been astounding. He unlocked they keys to the universe and his work connecting quantum physics with relativity was unparalleled.”

Hawking will be dearly missed in the scientific community. Hawking impacted so many all around the world as an inspiration. Truly the world has lost one of its greats, Hawking will be dearly missed.
