Spring sports began Monday, March 19 and all the athletes are very excited for the season to begin.

Seniors are very eager to start their final lacrosse season for Triton. The seniors for this season are Erika Siemasko, Gabby Doucot, May Ganzenmuller, Alex Kennedy, and Meredith Kennedy.

The captains for this year were recently announced and they are May Ganzenmuller, Erika Siemasko, and Gabby Doucot.

The goalie for the varsity team is Ashlyn Smith. The team had a shaky start to tryouts, for a handful of girls decided to no longer continue to play lacrosse the day the season began. This left the team with 29 girls, 10 or so less than the team is used to having each year which will make it difficult for the team overall. Although this may have been a struggle at first, the team is still going to push themselves this season.

This season is going to be a building year considering that the team lost a handful of the starting line up. Last year’s star players who graduated in 2017 were Skyla Lewis, Hope Leonard, Erin Savage, Samantha Brown, Ally Kelley, and Eloise Hurton. Ashlyn Smith will be returning for her second year as goalie and about 10 girls will be returning to varsity.

We interviewed a few key players about the season and there opinions about how it will go. Most players agreed that this year will be a challenge, but they will continue to work hard.

“Because we lost a big portion of our team, my teammates and I are going to have to work very hard in order to be successful” said junior Ashlyn Smith.

“I hope to win majority of our games and to make the tournament. If we put in the work, I believe we can do it,” said Smith.

“I have played lacrosse for a while now and always look forward to the season,” shared junior Josie Smith.

“I love the intensity during games and the team itself. We are all basically a big family,” shared Smith.

The Triton Girls Lacrosse program may have had a rough start to their season, but they trust that they can reach their goals with hard work and dedication.
