The New England Patriots are an extremely well-known football team. They have been in ten Super Bowls and have won five of them. The Pats have become the heart of New England because of the amount of success and promise they have shown their fans.

This season, the Pats had 13 wins and 3 losses. They placed first in the East American Football Conference. The team made it to their tenth Super Bowl this year which was known as the 52nd Super Bowl ever. Sadly, the Patriots didn’t pull off their tenth Super Bowl win on February fourth against the Philadelphia Eagles. The final score was 33 to 41.

The game was well-fought and well-played by both football teams. But for the Pats players and all the New Englanders out there, the week following their loss was devastating and downright depressing.

Four days after the team’s loss, Tom Brady posted on Instagram; “There are many emotions when you come up short of your goal. And they are all apart of learning and growing in this journey of life. Learning turns everything into a positive. And the number one feeling I have had the past four days is gratitude.” Brady gives New England citizens hope that they will make a come back next year better, bigger and stronger.

We have many Patriots fans throughout Triton High School who are passionate and supportive fans of the team. Some share their feelings on the loss and what could have been done better to maybe get the win we were all hoping for.

Former coach for Triton Football, Coach Shawn McElligott said “ I still have not watched any highlights or any station that talks about the game but i’m not sure if we could have done that much better, the Eagles did a great job finding matchups that favored them on big plays and they went out and made them.”

“I am extremely sad about the Patriots loss, I really thought they were gonna get the dub,” said senior, superfan Justin Stanley. “I definitely think the defense could have been better. Brady’s throwing wasn’t the best I’ve seen from him this season.”

Coach Mac also believes that the defense could have been better. “The patriots offensively did very well, they put up over 30 points and should have had 4 more points off of missed kicks.”

Stanley also adds that he is wishing for a better, or as good of a season next year, “I think overall they had a great season. They always do.”

Stanley believes that the MVP of the super game was Tom Brady. “Brady always puts his best foot forward and plays a great game. He’s made things possible for the team that are almost unbelievable,” he said.

Coach Mac has a different opinion about the game. When asked who he thought the MVP of the game and season were he said, “MVP of the game, the Eagles quarterback Foles, he made enough big plays to win. For the season, Brady, it is unheard of the numbers and success rate he is having at 40 years old, the media, espically ESPN won’t give him enough credit.”

Malcolm Butler, a key player in Super Bowl 51 did not play in Super Bowl 52. There is no definite answer as to why he didn’t play but fans were not too happy about this.

Senior May Ganzenmuller, who is also a superfan and keeps up with the Patriots and their games, shared how she felt about the Super Bowl and some of the decisions that were made.

“I was shocked when I didn’t see Butler playing during the game. I think it would have made a difference if he played, and he could have caught some passes from Brady that would of maybe won the game for us,” said Ganzenmuller.

Two days following Super Bowl 52; quarterback of the Patriots and worldwide sports figure, Tom Brady spoke out to the public about his feelings after losing the Super Bowl last Sunday night.
