Hannah Burd, a senior at Triton has always been very studious. She found a love for science and even makes YouTube videos, mostly about science. She creates songs and talks about different things relating to the subjuct. Burd is currently top three in the senior class and has recently been accepted to Dartmouth College.
How did you know that Dartmouth was the college for you?
Dartmouth was the second college out of almost two dozen that I toured. When I visited everything was just perfect. The school had no flaws, except maybe the cold. The last thing my tour guide said to me was, “now go off and explore, spend the day as if you were a Dartmouth students,” and I did just that. I genuinely wanted to send my mom back to Massachusetts and just stay there forever. Every single place on campus felt like I could make it home. I remember sitting in the info sessions for all of the other colleges that I visited after that and just daydreaming about Dartmouth the whole time.
Since you feel that way, do you think you’ll be ok with being away from home?
I think so. I love my family and my dogs and I don’t want to just see them a few times a year but at the same time I don’t want to stay too close. Dartmouth is exactly two hours away which for me is the perfect distance.
What’s your major?
Most likely either Neuroscience or Biology with a genetics concentration along with a minor in Digital Arts.
What other Ivy League schools did you apply to?
None actually. The Ivies coordinate with each other so that you can only apply to one early decision or single-choice early action. I of course chose Dartmouth as my one. But if I hadn’t gotten accepted I would’ve applied to Princeton, Brown, Yale and maybe Harvard along with some non-ivies.
Did you apply early action or early decision?
Early decision, Dartmouth doesn’t have early action.
Were you nervous you weren’t going to get in?
Of course. I knew I was a qualified applicant, but it’s an ivy league school with a 10% acceptance rate, so no one is guaranteed anything. It was a long and stressful process, but my interview went really well and I got an email about a week before decisions came out hinting at an acceptance so I felt optimistic.
