Tech News Alert: Net Neutrality Repeal

Thomas Powis, Staff Writer

One of the biggest debates in the history of the Internet it upon us and the fate of many will be determined in less than two weeks.

The issue of course: the net neutrality repeal, which has angered countless numbers of individuals across the United States and has been the fire for many protests, death threats, and overall hurtful words directed at the FCC and Ajit Pai, the chairman of the FCC.

Net neutrality is a law put in place by the Obama cabinet that basically states that all internet service providers in the U.S.A must treat all data on the internet equally.

How this impacts us is that if it were to be repealed they could monitor our internet use more, sell our browser history for their use, and censor some thing they don’t want you to see, and charge you more for specific websites(such as a rival isp).

Currently the repeal is set to happen in a little under two weeks, and if passes, it will shake the United States in a very bad way.  The internet will be more expensive, and more restrictive.

However there is still hope.  The first source of hope is all the heat that the FCC is receiving from the internet and since they have to vote to repeal it or not the heat may change some member’s minds.  The other glimmer of hope is that the repeal may be deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court and not allowed to pass.

So hold onto hope and see what you can do to help prevent the FCC from ruining the internet by writing to them and expressing your opinion.
