Mr. Horsley and His Adventures

The man who’s been all over the world, and the US!

Thomas Horsley is a part of our beloved science staff and an excellent recent addition to our school. Everyone who takes his class knows how much he loves the subject he teaches- marine biology and environmental science. What most people don’t know is that he has travelled worldwide and seen some pretty amazing things.

After asking Mr.Horsley where he has travelled to, off the top off his head he came up with Guyana in South America, Borneo in Southeast Asia, Honduras in Central America, India, all but 3 states in the U.S., Virgin Islands, Barbados and all across Canada.

“The most fun one was this summer when my fiance and I, on a whim, decided to drive across the country.  We were gone for 29 days, visited 27 states, saw 13 national parks and drove 11,000 miles, which was pretty amazing,” said Mr.Horsley.

Mr. Horsley is a very adventurous person, from travelling worldwide to just taking a hike in the

White Mountains of North Conway. His real love for the outdoors and science makes him that much more of a better teacher. Four amazing animals reside in his classroom; a bearded dragon, two snakes and a “green day gecko”. These animals make the classroom such a great learning environment for his science students. He loves all of his animals deeply, but admitted to us that he does have a favorite.

“Don’t tell the others but my favorite animal is probably Semo, the madagascar day gecko in there (his classroom), she’s wonderful.” said Horsley.

Aside from just being an excellent teacher, Mr. Horsley has gone on ma

ny “workcations”. He previously travelled abroad and studied the Bat species. Although, these weren’t exactly trips where he got to just relax and do no work, he still loved these trips as much as he loved the others.

When asked what

his biggest accomplishment has been, his response but heart warming. He’s not only a great teacher, but a great guy.

“I would say my biggest accomplishment has been meeting my fiance”, said Horsley.  He told us about how much family matters to him, and his biggest fear would be not being there when his family or friends needed him.

Aside from caring about his family and friends, he also cares a lot about his students. Mr. Horsley always tries his be

st to help his students in any way he can. Many students can say that he really care about them succeeding not only in his class, but in life.

“Mr.Horsley is the type of teacher who really cares if you succeed or not, he always offers his help on things and won’t give up until he knows you know it.
” said student Paige Zukowski.

Thomas Horsley has many amazing qualities as a teacher and human- adventurous, smart and caring. We are all very lucky to have him as one of our science teachers, here at Triton High School.
