Longtime Rowley resident Abby Confalone has had quite the busy senior year so far. With a schedule packed with honors and AP classes, and positions on the varsity ski and tennis teams, Confalone’s in-school life is more than hectic. Outside the classroom, however, Confalone is gaining hands-on experience in the field she hopes to pursue as a career.

For as long as she can remember Confalone has wanted to be an architect. Luckily for her, Confalone’s father owns ECM, a metrology company that uses lasers for precision measuring services. The company works with and contracts architects for some of their projects. After interning for her father in his office for about a year, Confalone has now been promoted to work on actual architecture programs for the company. She will be working with actual clientele on real design projects for the company.

“I’m excited to start work alongside real architects on real projects and I’m looking forward to gaining experience in the field and building my portfolio,” said Confalone.

Confalone is applying to many renowned architecture programs such as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. She says she hopes her hands-on experience will set her apart from other applicants during the extremely selective admissions process.

“My advice for underclassmen is just to get involved, and make the most of high school because before you know it you’re a senior and you have to figure out your entire future,” said Confalone.
