The Triton field hockey team, with a current record of 11-2-2, has been guaranteed a spot in the CAL playoffs.

The team has worked really hard to get to this point, and they are planning on working even harder during the playoffs. The Triton Voice asked some of the players about how their season has gone so far and their goals for the playoffs.

“I think we have been very competitive this season,” said junior Bridget Sheehan, the starting goalie for the field hockey team. “We were not expected to do as well as we have, but our entire team believes in each other and we all just love playing together.”

“This season has gone really well for our team,” said junior Gracie Burnim. “We are all working together and working really hard to be where we are and where we want to be.”

The team has had a very successful season, with many highlights to it.

Senior Sofia DeSimone said that a highlight from this season was “defeating Lynnfield 3-0 twice because they are always a strong team.” Triton had lost to Lynnfield in the previous years, so being able to beat them twice in one season was very encouraging.

“The highlight of this season was staring off with a 6-0 shutout streak.” said Burnim. “That really started the season on the right foot.”

While the team has had a great season so far, they are more focused on the playoffs and preparing for tough matches.

Senior Riane Vatcher said “I am excited that we made tournament again this year, but I just feel like we can do a lot more. States is just the halfway point. We are going to keep pushing forward.”

DeSimone said that “it’s nice knowing that we are definitely in the tournament, but right now, that’s in the back of our minds, the next two CAL games have our complete focus.”

The team is doing a lot to prepare for the playoffs, which is their main focus right now.

“The team is still continuing to practice really hard.” said junior Caitlyn Roberge. “We know we’re going to be facing competition so we’re still giving 110% effort.”

¨The week before playoffs, we usually do some extra conditioning.” said DeSimone. ¨We also have lots of pasta parties and team bonding.¨

Hopefully all of the extra work that the team puts in for the playoffs pays off.

When asked about their predictions for the playoffs, the players all felt very optimistic.

¨I think as a competitor I have to believe we will go all the way till the end,” said Sheehan. ¨If we don’t believe we can, why even try. I believe in these girls and our coaches, and I think if we work as one, we can do it.¨

Roberge said ¨I can see us going all the way if we keep playing hard and as a team…We can´t give up on each other even though our regular season is almost over. We have states which are just as important.¨

As you can see, the team is really working hard for the playoffs, and are hoping to win a championship for Triton. They have had an amazing season, and are hoping to continue it.
