On The Look-out

As we go to buy a used car most of us don’t know what to look for or we look just not at the right time. As you go to look at a used car, especially if it’s off craigslist, you need to ask for a test drive before you look at anything. The reason why you do this is it allows all the fluids to heat up and reach operating pressure. Doing this will show any leaks anything might have along with informs you about and brake work that needs to get done, or shake and shimmy the vehicle has.

After the test drive listen to the engine. If there is any tapping or knocking sound that could be a sign of the engine going out. Next look at the engine block. If the engine is wet and it’s been dry weather the car had a fluid leak and that could be a very large repair bill. Next run your hand over the tires. This might seem dumb, but if the tire has a wavy or choppy feel that is a sign of the suspension damage.

After looking at all the mechanical parts of the car look at the body. If there is rust in the fender wells or under the car, how bad is it? Is it just a little surface rust or is the wholes in the metal.  If it’s just surface rust then a little spray paint can cover that right up.
