Gun control is a problem that faces America on a daily basis.

According to procon.org, the United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, which is the highest total per capita in the world.

People don’t just own guns, and not use them.

As reported by, “Brady Campaign”, a foundation to prevent gun violence, statistics show that everyday, an average  315 people in America are shot as a part of murders, assaults, suicides, unintentional shootings, and police intervention daily.

Stricter gun control laws, would not only enforce more safety, prevent daily casualties, it could also prevent massive tragedies, such as the recent Las Vegas shooting.

The Las Vegas shooting is the biggest mass shooting in U.S history, according to  “ The LA Times”, the shooting left 58 dead and over 500 injured.

With more strict gun control laws, tragic events such as the Las Vegas shooting could potentially be prevented.

With a background check on the person purchasing a gun, it could have the impact of saving someone’s life. People are hard to read, and you never know what they are capable of, therefore you never know when the next mass shooting could be or who is the one behind the trigger. In fact , the average person walks past a murderer 36 times in their lifetime, according to research from Radford University.

Some may argue that stricter gun control laws won’t change the way people think, which is in fact correct. However, if there is a way to prevent gun violence, and the deaths of innocent lives lost, there should be something done to start the prevention of these tragic occurrences.

Another common misconception is that the Second Amendment entitles us with the right to bear arms, which is correct, but just because people have the right to something does not necessarily mean people should exercise that right.

The Second Amendment was ratified in 1791, which was a completely different era than the 21st century. People hunted for food, were more exposed to wildlife, and a gun was a means for survival. According to historians, every citizen  was required to own a gun, in order to be active participants in their militia in colonial times.

Now in the 21st century, an iphone is the common means for “survival”, and there isn’t a need for a gun to survive in the 21st century when there is access to police, emergency personnel, the armed forces, the FBI, ect. To protect society.

Therefore is there even a need for someone to hold a gun in possession in one’s household, when it endangers the safety of themselves and society?
