Senior Check-Up

Senior year is a year in which is more transitional than any other. You look at things from a new perspective and find yourself constantly contemplating your path in life. What is next? What will you do? With big tests, applications, and all the “lasts” that your senior year of high school brings, it can become pretty stressful. The biggest and most prominent step is college. Deadlines for applications are right around the corner, in the beginning of November for a lot of colleges, which is starting to stress a lot of students. With the common app and letters of recommendation all needing to be finalized soon we caught up with a few students to see what their plans are for after graduation or of they even have a plan at all. Some are already committed or have a very good idea of where they would like to attend while others are still figuring it out.

Vasilios Karimitios said, “I would like to go into music and attend a music school in California”.

He already has a list of schools he is going to apply to and knows which direction he wants to head in when it comes to a career path.

Much like Karimitios, senior Gwen Norton, Apphia Donoghue, and Chalee Welch all know where they want to go and what they want to study.

“Go to the University of Alabama”, said Norton. “I want to study business. Not sure what I want to do with it though.” Although she doesn’t know specifically what she wants to do in her field of her study, she is among the few who are already committed.

Norton said, “ It’s nice. I feel like a lot of stress is off my shoulders.”

Meanwhile, Donoghue is, “ planning to go college in New England for four years…  studying occupational therapy”.

Senior Chalee Welch says she, “wants to go to Virginia Tech”. There she plans to study “pre-med or nutrition”.

Cam Wiley is in a different boat. He knows that he wants to be a “nurse practitioner”, however he isn’t sure about which college would fit best yet. Wiley says he is “uncommitted”.

As for senior Evan McParland, he said, “Four years of college, no idea what college, but then I’m gonna make cash money”. Although he isn’t sure what he wants to do or where he wants to go, he has started the search and “already begun the common app”.

As you can see, there is no hard and fast way to completing the college process. Some know what they want to do and where they want to go, others know only what they want to study or have an idea of a certain school, and some have no clue at all. Which ever pool you find yourself in, it is best to begin the thinking process early and try and picture where you want to be and what you want to do in the future.

Throughout these next months, our Triton seniors will be going through college essays, their last sports seasons, and preparations for what’s next.
