On the morning of Halloween last Thursday, the Triton cafeteria was filled with seniors dressing up in costumes to walk the annual Halloween Parade.Costumes like out of this world aliens, popular artists, video game characters, pirates, and even Jesus filled the hallways.
For a long time now Triton has held the Halloween walk for the seniors to dress up with their friends one last time before going off to college. To some, dressing up is somewhat of a competition, trying to make the most elaborate and best costume, such as senior Adam White who has been adding new 3D printed pieces to his Batman costume for a few years now.
“Halloween means everything to me,” said White. “I’m in a lifelong battle with myself to have the best halloween costume and that’s why I work for many many months on my Batman costume.”
Others think of the Halloween Parade as having a good time with friends dressing up as funny characters and wearing matching costumes. Senior Nick Bonasera dressed up as minions with his friends as Luke Sullivan dressed up as Gru from Despicable Me.
”The Halloween parade is super fun,” said Bonasera. “I like to dress up with my friends and it’s a good show of school spirit.”
Many have different traditions on Halloween. Some who don’t dress up, stay home to hand out candy to trick or treaters. Others go out dressed up to celebrate the holiday.
As a kid, dressing up and going trick or treating on the 31st is something you would look forward to all year. As seniors many don’t trick or treat anymore, so for many seniors such as Anthony Navoroli who dressed up as Jesus, the Halloween parade becomes a special event where you can dress up with the friends you have grown up with one last time before going to college and starting their adult life.
Many were in high spirits getting ready for the walk in the cafeteria with the crisp autumn air setting the perfect backdrop for the event. Students lined the halls to see which seniors would showcase the best and imaginative costumes this year. The Halloween based music over the intercom set a great atmosphere for the students and administration to have a high spirited time.
Many were in high spirits like guidance counselor Karyn Cassidy who was fully in character as she greeted many students dancing her way down the hallway. Cassidy was just one of the administrative members who joined in on the fun as a group of them dressed up as characters from the recently released Inside Out 2 movie.
“It’s just a really fun event we’ve done every year and it’s a good way to build spirit and community,” said principal Patrick Kelley who dressed up as fear from Inside Out 2. “It lets everyone kind of have a fun and funny morning.” The Administrative crew were not the only staff dressing up for the parade however.
Science teacher, Mr. Horseley, could be seen dressed in a furry Sasquatch costume. Students in grades 9, 10, and 11 were taken out of class to fill the halls to watch the steady stream of seniors walk through in costumes. This offered a chance for the younger students to see some of their senior friends dressed up. For many students overall, the Halloween parade is a fun way to express yourself and have fun with friends even though it is short. It also helps some take their mind off of school for a little bit and enjoy the atmosphere, whether they’re in the parade or not.
“I liked seeing the costumes and getting out of class for a little bit,” said junior Tim Clark when asked to comment on how he felt about the parade. For the seniors, the event is a good way for older kids to dress up with their friends one last year before college. For the younger students, the parade is a good time to see your older friends dressed up and take your mind off of school.
