Growing up around a preschool made it easy for Ms. Mackenzie Maguire to know what she was going to be when she was older.

Since Maguire was a little girl, her mom owned a preschool and Maguire loved it.  She  says that she always wanted to be a teacher, and she believes that her mom owning a preschool pushed her towards that as a career.  Maguire says that she never thought about doing anything else other than teaching younger children.

“My mom owned her own preschool my whole life so, that’s just what I grew up around, so I always knew I wanted to work with the younger grades,¨said Maguire.  This really pushed Maguire to want to become a teacher for the younger grades.

There are many things that Maguire loves about teaching kindergarten but her favorite is that everything is exciting for kindergarteners, no matter what it is.

“Everything is the most exciting thing for them even if its math, math is the most exciting thing.” Says Maguire. With kindergarteners being excited about everything, it always makes the day fun.

Maguire grew up in a house with a built-in role model. Her mom owned her own preschool and since then, she knew what she wanted to be. Maguire taught at Lawrence for seven years and then moved to Pine Grove. She grew up in Newburyport so she was thrilled when she was able to come back near her hometown. “I have seen her teaching before. I walked in during a time of math centers and students were well engaged in various math activities, working with one another and with teachers.¨ Vice principal, Mrs. Elyse Earls, says.

Maguire was destined to become a preschool teacher.  She has never thought about a different career path, her mind was set since she was little.  While Maguire has been teaching, she has taught preschool and kindergarten.  “I loved seeing kids learn and make connections and get excited about learning new things, I think growing up as my mom being a teacher really inspired me.” Maguire says.

Choosing Triton, specifically Pine Grove, made Maguire really excited.  Going to Newburyport from kindergarten to high school, Maguire was a rival of Triton but says that she loves the community here. Maguire does not have any kids yet, just a dog, Maple, who is two. Maguire says that she would not teach any grades higher than first just because she loves kindergarten so much.

Maguire’s favorite memory of teaching is going back into the school after being in remote learning for so long.  She loved how happy the students were to see their friends and teachers.

When Maguire moved to Pine Grove she knew one person, vice principal, Ms. Elyse Earls.  “Mrs. Maguire is a lifelong learner who is always improving her craft.” Said Earls. Earls has only good things to say about Maguire and her teaching skills.  Earls describes Maguire as being patient, fun, and engaging.

Talking to her advisor, Ms. Michelle Lojko, she says that she is looking forward to working with Maguire and that they have not had much time together yet.

“Everyday is exciting.”  Maguire says.
