Hi, my name is Peter Jelly. I’m a junior at Triton High school.

I work part-time during spring, summer, and part of fall. I enjoy football and I would try and play for my school team if I didn’t have to babysit my younger sister. I enjoy spending time with friends in person or online playing video games. I’m very close with my family, especially my older cousins.

I enjoy journalism because it gives me a chance to choose what to write. I’m not a good writer and in the years before my normal English classes would have assignments to write about certain books or stories or topics that I didn’t enjoy and often I would go off topic because I was passionate about something similar and end up failing the assignment. Journalism gives me the chance to try and be passionate about writing and to be creative

Being a journalist and writing for the school newspaper is important because it teaches me how to be creative while improving my writing and it helps me stay up to date with school events or news. Writing for the paper and having a school paper is important because it gives students or residents in towns that go to Triton a way to stay up to date with local news.

I’m only 17 years old but in my life, I’ve already seen so many people of all different ages who struggle with mental health problems. It’s a serious problem that needs attention desperately. Many people are struggling and/or have nobody to talk to. I want to be a therapist or a counselor and help individuals who struggle with these problems and try and help people one at a time to try and make a dent in the problem that is mental health.
