Greetings! My name is Kiara Kenney. I am a senior at Triton High School. I have six siblings total, and only two of them go here. I spend my days working at Dunkin’ after school and on the weekends. I enjoy working because I basically get paid to hangout with my co workers and meet new people — with just a little elbow grease.
When I’m not working or at school, I like to spend time with myself productively, like going for runs, cooking, making art, and journaling. I am heavy on self care and my well-being, so I try to do everything that I love and pursue what makes me happy because I know that my life isn’t guaranteed today, tomorrow, and the days after that.
I try to take as many opportunities that I can, like joining the bee club, or enrolling into dual enrollment classes, or designing posters and stickers for Triton. My schedule can be busy at times, so there’s only so much I can do. So, when I get the chance to get involved in any way at Triton, I take it.
When I chose this class, I had an idea about it, like the school newspaper. I realized that it’s more than the school newspaper. I didn’t know that us students had to go out and meet new people. So far, I am learning more communication skills when meeting new people. If journalism isn’t the route I take for my career, I’m sure that I will take everything I’ve learned from journalism and use it for my future.
It’s important not only for us students to learn better skills, but for readers to be influenced that even High School students can write great articles. It also helps our community to get a look at what’s new each week, and how High School students perceive it from their own perspective.
I know that I want to see the world. Being Hispanic, and overall enjoying my own culture made me want to learn more about other cultures. I knew that there was a life for me beyond the small state of Massachusetts.
I don’t know what I’ll do for sure in future, but I know that I want to live my life on my own terms.
