Newburyport and Masco are always tough to play in any sport, but the Triton Hockey Team is looking to overtake their two rivals. 

“Teams like Newburyport and Masco are definitely circled on the calendar,” said Senior hockey returner Brad Killion.

After an amazing run into the tournament for the first time in 10 years the Triton Ice Hockey team is looking to bounce back with another great season. The boys will look to take another run at the tournament with many returners from last year.

Last season brought many ups and downs for the team, but with a few key players, they had a season to remember. With huge help coming from graduated seniors Sam Rennick, TJ Regan, and Ben Fougere last year, the team looks to fill in these holes this year.

“This team should know what it takes to compete and succeed in high stress environments,” said Head Coach Ryan Sheehan. 

With 14 returning varsity players coming back, this team is looking to be a solid CAL contending team. 

“I think we have a good shot to win the CAL this year,” says Senior Tyler Godfrey, “the games against Port and Masco, along with the opener against Lynnfield will be tough.”

Although the boys finished with a 15-6-2 record and coming out with wins against high quality teams, they are looking to do the same this season. 

“After looking at the schedule this year and seeing teams like Masco and Newburyport we know that it will be tough,” says Junior Brady Lindholm, “But after looking at the schedule it seems to have gotten harder this year by adding in better teams to play such as Glouchester, and Chelmsford.”

When comparing the schedules from this year and last year there is a big difference when it comes to out of league games. Besides playing Wellsley and Melrose again this year they will travel to Glouchster for their third game of the year. Instead of participating in the Christmas Tournament at Saugus with the following teams Melrose, North Reading, and Saugus, they will be playing a tounrament in Chelmsford a week after. That tournament with consist of teams like Danvers, Lowell, and Chelmsford  

The team looks to make a huge impact on the school by having many students attend the games and then making Triton High School known around the states. They must prove again what it means to be a top contending team in any division.

“I think that adding the scrimmage against a team that comes from a different state could help us a lot,” said senior Connor Kohan. 

The boys have three scrimmages before they travel to Lynnfield to take them on at the beginning of the season. But one of those scrimmages is different. 

Most of the time, teams will scrimmage teams that are in the same state. This year the boys will play their first scrimmage against a team from Connecticut, which is new for this program. 

“It will give us exposure to other states which could make an impact on how we play at a different level,” said Kohan. 

This year they look to have another amazing year, but what will be worth looking forward too?

The school picked up a new Athletic Director, and trainer over the summer and the trainer actually became the assistant athletic director. 

“Watching games, and covering and new sport since becoming certified,” said Trainer Macy Morrison. 

The boys look to have another great year and hope to make it a memorable one.
