The Angry Donut

What’s all the hype about with this new donut shop

“That’s an expensive donut!” said junior Liv Mosher. “But I guess it depends. It might be cool to try once or twice for the experience.”

Opening on February 1st, The Angry Donut has a unique appeal that attracts many locals to try a donut; but what’s all the hype about? Located in Downtown, Newburyport, the shop has lured in many customers who are interested in the creative idea of something different than just the average donut.

One donut costs $3 and one dozen donuts costs $38, so the donuts are far more overpriced than any other; but they continue to sell out everyday. The A period journalism class test-tasted some donuts and gave their input; but for the most part, they seemed not worth the money or the hype.

“The Fruity Pebble donut looked very colorful and appealing to me,” said senior Vasilios Karamitisios. “However, it was too dry and the cereal on top was stale.”

“I had the cinnamon sugar donut and it kind of reminded me of an untoasted cinnamon sugar bagel,” said senior Julia Plummer. “It wasn’t the best.”

The donut shop is a small, colorful, old fashioned cafe. The shop may come off as underrated at first sight, but after entry, many are happily surprised. There are many aspects that are appealing to the eye; including, the chic setup that is welcoming to many customers.

They offer a selection of nine donuts flavors every day. Alongside the donuts, they have a wide selection of coffees, teas, and other common, but tasty, pastries. The wacky donut variety changes options every day so there is always something new to try every visit. The attraction of the donuts has caused them to sell out every day.

“I tried the sea salted chocolate donut and it was delicious!” said senior Katie MacDonald. “Except the smell was a little odd.”

“The maple bacon donut had an unusual appearance,” said senior Emily Muzi. “But it was pleasantly surprising, like a smokey glazed donut.”

In comparison to The Angry Donut, Dunkin Donuts is the most popular place students like to go to. So, what’s the difference? The angry donut is about twice the size as one from Dunkin’s and is also triple the price. Based on taste, most of the angry donuts seem to be more bland, but they do have more extravagant flavors to offer than the typical Dunkin Donuts.

“I prefer Dunkin Donuts over the Angry Donut,” said junior Dylan Waters. And many others are to agree that Dunkin Donuts is better.

Many people may think that $3 for a donut is not worth it, but it might be a fun experience to try it every once in a while. Go try one for yourself, but be there early to beat the crowd.
