A Way to Make up Snow Days
April 5, 2018
Blizzard bags are a way to not fall behind on schoolwork on a snow day. This is done by putting a full days worth of schoolwork into a bag and doing it while at home during a snow day.
This new idea has been adopted by both Amesbury and Masconomet. It lets students not fall anymore behind, on the teachers schedule, then they already have during the other snow days.
Many students at Triton think that this is a good idea and should be implemented to the school. One Junior Quentin Callewaert said “I think that it’s a great way to ensure we are not here until July.” and another Junior Ethan Tougas said “I think that it would be a good plan”. Students at Triton very much like the idea and think that Blizzard Bags would help with not falling behind.
One Junior, Amanda Bowman, thinks that there are other problems present with this idea. “I feel like we wouldn’t actually do the work when the time came.” And that is a very strong reason argument against Blizzard Bags. When will we do the work. Many students have to shovel out there driveway or do other things to make sure that their house is fine during the storm. What if there is a power outage and you need to complete the work st night? There are many things that could go wrong.
Students and teachers have had similar responses to this concept though. One teacher Johanna Kimball, at the Amesbury schools said “I think by and large teachers have been onboard. Since in our district its been done on a trial basis we didn’t have a lot of time to prepare them.”
This is a concept that has both good and bad factors. A good thing is that they will not have to make up snow days that they have blizzard bags for. But there is still the fact that they might have things to do to keep their houses up.
Blizzard bags are something that have been used all around the state. Throughout the state many students have been making up there days so that they will not go until the end of June.
