What This Upcoming Sports Season Has In Store For Triton

As winter sports are winding down to an end, many student athletes are physically and mentally preparing themselves for the spring sports season not too far ahead of us. Triton High School’s spring program includes boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls tennis, track and field,  baseball, and softball.

After a successful 2017 season, Triton’s varsity softball team is looking to come back for another good year. “Last year was a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to playing this year and seeing the new-coming players,” said softball player Caitlyn Roberge. After their last year’s team made it to States, the pressure is on for returning players and new rookie players trying to earn their spot on the team.

Triton’s varsity boys lacrosse team will have many fresh faces this year due to the fact that 12 starting players graduated last year. “This is going to be a very young, rebuilding team, so that’s kind of exciting,” said boys lacrosse coach Donna Anderson. Although there are some familiar faces coming back, this is a good year for the players to show what they can do and get that spot on varsity. “I’m really looking forward to getting back out onto the field. We lost basically all our starters from last year so that opens up space for new kids to get their shot,” said junior Connor Beevers. “I’m also excited because I might play goalie this year, which is both scary but also pretty cool.”

Girls tennis is another program that will see many new faces entering the court. “I think the season will go okay, we lost a lot of seniors last year so we have a mostly beginner team,” said junior Meri Fullford. “I think this year we will try harder to work as a team to win those matches that decide whether or not the team will win and help each other get better throughout the season.”

Our spring teams need support! Let’s get the Viking Ship out supporting every game and match this season holds.
