Starting the College Process After Graduation

An Interview with Triton Alumnus Michael Sanchez

Ryan Farrell, Staff Writer

Many seniors are excited about applying to and attending college next year, but they aren’t the only people hoping to study at a new school.  Michael Sanchez is a Triton alumnus who is currently in his second year at Northern Essex Community College (commonly called NECCO). He plans to transfer to a four year college next year. The Triton Voice had an opportunity to ask Sanchez some questions about his plans for the future.

  • Where are you going to school now?

I’m taking business classes at NECCO.

  • How does NECCO compare to Triton?

It’s actually pretty similar to Triton. I have a few classes a day, you get homework, it gets graded. The teachers are kind of like in high school. They want you to succeed.

  • What’s your least favorite thing about NECCO?

The old people in my classes, like in their 40’s and 50’s. It’s just weird and they slow down the class with stupid questions. I had some old guy in one of my classes who didn’t even know how to turn his computer on.

  • Would you recommend that people go there after high school?

I would recommend it for people who don’t know what to do. It saves you a lot of money and you can get your core classes done, like English and math.

  • What are you planning to do after this year at Necco?

After the spring semester I want to transfer to a four-year school, like UMass Amherst, UMass Lowell, or Salem State.

  • Why do you want to transfer?

NECCO is only a two year school, and I can only get an associate’s degree there. I want to transfer to a four-year college to get a better degree and make more money.

  • What are you planning to study at a new school? Why?

I want to major in sports management. I love sports and want to do something I love. I don’t want to be someone who goes to work everyday and just hates it.
