Skiing into the Sunset of a Lifetime
January 9, 2018
Senior Emily Muzi has an interest in a sport that isn’t so common at Triton. Muzi is a part of the Ski team that our school has to offer. She has been skiing for 10 years now, and has a passion for it. As she skis every winter, she becomes better and looks forward to it every year.
How long have you been skiing for?
I’ve been skiing since I was seven or eight years old. My whole family are bigger skiers, so I’m falling in their footsteps.
Have you ever played a sport other than skiing?
I’ve played lots of various youth sports but they never kept my interest. I always thought they were boring or I felt like I need a change of something new and different. I felt it was easy to stick to skiing, but I picked it up quick and was good at it.
What made you have an interest in skiing? How did you start?
I started with just taking lessons, but then my instructor recommended that I join the Bradford Ski team when I was 12. It was the only way I could improve to my full potential since i’d be skiing every day. I was hesitant at first to join the race team because I didn’t think I’d be ready to race competitively. My parents pushed me to do it, and I’m so glad they did because it’s something I’ll love for the rest of my life. Since then I’ve joined multiple teams over the years and I’ve met so many different people, traveled so many places, and experienced so many things that I wouldn’t if it wasn’t for skiing.
Are you going to continue to ski after high school?
I am definitely going to ski for the rest of my life. In college especially, I hope to join the ski teams. When choosing colleges, it was important for me to go somewhere where I’m able to ski.
What advice would you give people who want to try skiing but haven’t?
My advice to people who want to try out skiing is that you absolutely should! it is so fun and so easy once you get the hang of it. If skiing isn’t your thing, you can always try snowboarding.
Why is it your favorite thing to do?
It’s my favorite thing to do because it is something I’m good at. I love skiing down the mountain especially during races. It gives me such an adrenaline rush!
