Parking Lot Etiquette: Top Five Do’s and Don’ts

Being able to drive to school is a privilege, and it should be treated as such

A common generalization heard around is that teenagers are bad drivers; the student drivers at Triton have taken this to a new level. A lack of organization and an increase in people who think the rules do not apply to them has caused our parking lots to become a convoluted mess. It’s a safety hazard.

This week, we asked fellow Triton students for their thought on conditions in the parking lots and their advice for other drivers in order to make the campus a more safe place for everyone.

Do use your blinker:

“People in the drop off line try to pull into the lane without using a blinker. I’m not letting anyone pass that doesn’t use their blinker,” – Senior Sydney Accamando

Don’t park in other people’s spots:

“People register and pay for their own spots for a reason. It’s a really bad start to the day when someone tries to avoid paying by taking someone else’s spot that they have already paid for,” – Senior Luke Groder

Do take turns when pulling into the main entrance:

“People pulling into the entrance do not understand or care that both sides are supposed to take alternating turns. A lot of the times this causes long lines all the way up the road,” – Senior Malia Hulbert

“Ask like a respectable human being, you are not the only driver, stop acting like it,” – Senior Hannah Marsh

Do pick a lane, and stay in it:

“There are two lanes and sometimes people will drive in the middle and it causes a jam and holds up traffic,” Senior Abby Confalone

Don’t get distracted by your friends, or your phone and ruin it for others: “People will wait in the lines and then get distracted by other things which cause even more traffic jams and hold-ups,” – Senior Ellie Odoy
