Shameless Review

Morgan Dexter, Staff Writer

We’ve all gone home after a night of work wanting to just lay on the couch and watch TV. You’ll sit there and go through Netflix trying to find something that is funny, has a little romance, and a ton of drama. Eventually you’ll come to the show Shameless and you won’t know if you want to watch it or not. Trust me, you do.

Shameless is an American version of a UK series that is about six kids with deadbeat parents. The mother abandons the kids with their alcoholic father to fulfill a life of partying and hardcore drugs. When their dad can’t step up, the oldest sister decides she will raise them in the ghetto of Chicago. The three characters who stands out the most with all the chaos going on through the show are as follows.

According to Showtime, Oscar-nominated actor William H Macy Jr. plays Frank the father who spends most of his time on screen drinking. Although most of the time he is drinking, he’s also doing a fantastic job playing a heartless alcoholic.  “Showtime did a really good job with this one. The show is just full of surprises that makes you want to keep watching especially with Frank.” said Alex Palmerino.

Then there’s Emmy Rossum a golden globe nominee who plays Fiona Gallagher. The character Fiona is a caring, loving person and tries her hardest to do what’s best for her siblings rather than herself up until the eighth season. The eighth season everything is about Fiona in her eyes and she lacks helping anyone of her siblings unless they help her.

Lip the oldest son is played by Jeremy Allen White who character just keeps changing each season. Lip takes after Frank and was a drunk for part of his time on the show and during the eighth season Lip is trying to stay sober with the help of his sponsor until Lip’s sponsor hits rock bottom and starts drinking again. Lip tries really hard to help him put his life back together as a new sober man. Lip as a person has improved going into the eighth season. “Lip really grew up in this last season” said Palmerino

The show has been playing since 2011 and it keeps getting more intense each season with not only those three characters but all of them. Shameless has the most outgoing cast that is also low class, rude, raw and very much shameless. The show can make just about anyone laugh. From season one to eight i believe the show has improved tremendously.
