Stranger Things Review

The Stranger Things Introduction

Kellie Corbin, Staff Writer

Many have heard the hype about the newest Stranger Things season. Is it really all that it’s hyped up to be? On October 27, 2017, Season 2 of the Netflix series Stranger Things was released awakening the fanatics of the show. Creators of the series announced in August of 2017 that there would be another season, leaving fans anxious and impatient. Stranger Things is not an ordinary show.
Season 1 of Stranger Things opened up the viewers minds on the theory of alternate reality and Sci-Fi. The main character, Will Byers, discovers the “upside-down” when he’s traveling home one night and is chased by a creature. He makes his way into his shed where he is then sucked into the “upside-down” through the light bulb. The upside down is an alternate dimension where there are mysterious creatures trying to make their way into the real world for domination.
The closing of Season 1 gave viewers hope of a second season. Will is rescued from the upside-down and seems to be fine until he coughs up some sort of slug, hinting that aren’t over just yet.
Season 2 explains Season 1 in further depth, finally revealing the characters personalities. Jim Hopper, Hawkins Sheriff, breaks from his arrogant, careless attitude as he cares for Eleven as his own daughter. Hopper becomes a dad and a hero throughout the show and seems to be the character that changes the most. Also who doesn’t love some romance? Jonathan and Steve finally figure out their destiny with Nancy. Who gets the girl? Watch Season 2 to find out.
The creepy theme song just doesn’t cut it. Stranger Things, within both seasons, has had the perfect soundtrack. At the best moments, when things are about to get bad, the director just had to throw in some extra scary music. It isn’t cheesy music either, it’s music that will give their audience the chills.
What separates Stranger Things from any other show is how it highlights the 1980’s. Most shows nowadays take place in either present day or in the future. However, Stranger Things, dates back to the 80’s and basically hits it spot on. Cell phones aren’t a thing, and radios are huge. Also, children are riding their bikes to get wherever they need to go. Kids today never ride their bikes around because they get rides from their parents or have older kids to drive them around. Things have changed quite a lot since the 80’s and Stranger Things depicts that accurately. The show also makes several references to other movies from the 70’s and 80’s. These references are from the movies Alien, Carrie, and E.T.
Recently, on October 27, 2017, Season 2 of the show was released and immediately received great reviews. Some may argue that the first season was the best, but season 2 goes into much more detail and incorporates more thrillers that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This thriller/sci-fi series has been promised an additional 2 seasons and possibly a 5th season.
Season 3 of Stranger Things has been confirmed, but a release date hasn’t leaked quite yet. The plot of the next season is also a mystery, but things are about to get a lot stranger.
