University of Maine Review

Marlee Smith, Staff Writer

A cold wind blew as I opened my car door. I stepped out and saw the beautiful University of Maine campus. To my right were students who scuffled around campus with happy smiles on their faces as they met with friends. To my left was the recently built football stadium which was gorgeous.
As the fall season is coming to an end and the winter is quickly approaching, seniors are working diligently on their college applications in order to continue their education. Seniors are faced with the difficulty of where to apply and what state they would like to go to. Many students are applying to schools in South Carolina, Massachusetts, Maine, and more. When one thinks of South Carolina, they think of warm weather, football, and sororities. When one thinks of Massachusetts, they think of parties, Boston, and lots of people. When one thinks of the state of Maine, they think of log cabins, snow, and a small quantity of people.
When seeing the University of Maine at Orono in person, I was extremely shocked. The combination of students around campus and such a beautiful stadium was shocking. Junior, Ashlyn Smith, recently visited the college campus in the middle of November and was very pleased.
“The stadium was very beautiful,” said Smith. “All the students and faculty seemed so happy walking around campus it looks like a perfect place to go to college.”
I also visited the University of Maine and fell in love. I loved the campus and the classrooms all looked very nice filled with lots of technology. I visited the education classrooms and I was very pleased. The classrooms contained virtual online teaching with cartoon children to help prepare college students for teaching children and the University of Maine is the only school in New England that has this technology. This technology is a great help as it allows inexperienced teachers to experience the pressure and stress that comes with teaching in front of an audience. I would recommend any senior to check out the University of Maine and consider continuing your education there, especially if you are considering majoring in education!
