Salisbury Beach Revival
November 9, 2017
Salisbury Center is a great place to enjoy a day at the beach, however with years of wear and tear, a renovation was needed.
This past summer the town of Salisbury approved $97,000 to revamp the beach center according to the Daily News of Newburyport. On top of this, a $923,000 grant was given from the Mass Seaport Development Council to build a new boardwalk along Oceanfront South. With hundreds of volunteer hours from residents and support from local businesses, this was all possible.
New picnic tables and benches replaced the old outdated ones. A new carousel was added for children to enjoy. New green space with pergolas and games were added, too. To top it off some street art was added to the road and trash barrels were added along with a mural.
Future plans include a new welcome center with restrooms and showers. The town is also working on buying the original Salisbury Beach carousel from California to put back in the center according to the Newburyport Daily News.
Salisbury residents are excited about all the work that has been done.
Resident Martha Tatro said, “I’m excited about the changes at the beach center. It’s been a long time coming, and so many people have been pushing and supporting the improvement.” Tatro added that she was looking forward to the return of the carousel.
Resident Eileen Johnson said, “I do think that it would be great to plan a revitalization to the area, it would benefit both town residents as well as visitors.”
Salisbury beach is on its way back to what it once was, and there is more to come. The town is working on getting funds to build a welcome center with public restrooms and showers in the future.
