After many substitutes for the absence of Dr Ellen Moore, one of those lucky substitutes has found her way to become the official science teacher for Triton.
Since De Nuzzio had already filled in for Dr Moore for most of last year, it was an easy call to make her the new science teacher for Triton.
De Nuzzio taught at Amesbury Middle School for 7 years until she was laid off due to budget cuts around the time COVID hit. De Nuzzio always wished to transfer to a high school to teach biology. It wasn’t until the 2024-2025 school year, when a substitute teacher was needed for Dr Moore’s class, that she got her chance. Fortunately, De Nuzzio taught the class for the remainder of last year. This year, it was announced that Dr Moore would not be coming back to Triton, so De Nuzzio was hired full-time.
“I’ve always wanted to teach high school, and I’ve been trying to transfer for a while,” De Nuzzio said. “I was a full-time sub for Dr Moore last year, so it’s nice to at least know what I’m getting into this year!”
When asked about the class itself, freshman Evan Allen said, “The class has been good, it’s a chill class.“
Then, when asked about her favorite part of the class, freshman Morgan Sullivan said, “My favorite part of the class are the labs,”.
De Nuzzio’s mentor, Mr Ivan Ferron, was asked how it was working with De Nuzzio.
“It was very helpful that she had prior teaching experience,” said Ferron. “My favorite part was the fact that she had taught at Triton last year. “I found out she liked nature and was passionate about what she does for teaching”.
De Nuzzio’s journey started at the University of New Hampshire, where she began as a Pre-Vet major. She then transferred to the University of Massachusetts for Environmental Science. She has a master of Science degree as well from Antioch University, New England, and an M.Ed from Lesley University.
She is originally from Methuen and lived in the White Mountains of New Hampshire for over six years before returning to northeastern Massachusetts.
Her motivation to continue teaching is the fact that it’s all she’s ever done or been. Her special interests are being a naturalist and enjoying observing all kinds of animals, plants, and fungi! She loves being on the coast. She’s a birder, photographer, and loves to walk on the beach with her pup named Summer.
