Maybe you’ll get welcomed from a peer instead of being glued into their screens in the hallways. Maybe a teacher will get more hand raises in a classroom instead of hiding screens under neath desks. The constant scrolling has come to an end at Triton High School.
Recent triton voice article investigating the phone use of students during class raised high concerns from teachers. Many have become fed up with the amount of time students spend on their phones instead of paying attention to there lesson. Teachers took their concerns to the principal, who agreed with the struggle of keeping students away from technology. He proposed that at the start of each day, every student will place their phones in pouches that will then be locked and kept throughout the day.
“This is ridiculous,” said TC. “How am I supposed to text my friends and watch tik toks in class.”
In addition to phones having to be kept in locked pouches, students will also have to arrive to school a whole 15 minutes early now, at 7:27, to make sure everyone is still in class by 7:42. This will make up for the time it takes each students to receive their pouch, lock their phone away, and give it to the teachers.
“I can not believe this is happening,” said BL. “I barely make it to school on time as is, I can’t imagine having to make it here any earlier.”
What will happen now that there are is no more cell phone use at Triton? Does this apply to everyone in the school, or just students? Good questions, even worse answers. Positive for the teachers, maybe students will actual care to pay attention in class. Negative for the students, they can’t hold onto their precious devices all day long, while teachers and other faculty at the school have free use of the technology.
