The Triton School Committee has decided, after discussing the school budget, that they can no longer afford to keep Triton doors open.
“After the 2025 graduates, the middle and high school will report to the elementary schools they had attended before going to Triton to finish their years of learning,” said School Committee Chairman Christopher Erikson.
The terrible budget cuts have led to no more Triton. Electricity bills, heating, providing free food and Chromebooks for students, having to cut teachers, and more have led to the downfall of this school. Because of how much the school is in debt, not having to pay these expenses will help Triton Regional High School’s neighboring towns, Rowley, Newbury, and Salisbury, support their incoming students.
Special Education teacher Aimee Manfield said, “I can’t believe it’s over. all the years I’ve worked here only for it to come to an end so soon.” She walked away with tears in her eyes, a red face, and an astonished look with no words left to say.
Teachers and students were so disappointed to finish school without some of their best friends. Not having a normal high school all because The Triton Regional School District couldn’t keep up with expenses.
Triton Junior Taylor Richard stated, “High school was not the best time for most people, but I’m quite devastated all these years have to end this way. Not being able to spend my senior year with some of my best friends, I dont know what to think anymore.” As the rest of the students return to their childhood schools, it will be very crowded.
Some former teachers from Triton have offered to assist and help the elementary schools. Until further notice, this is what students’ futures will look like.
