Prom season is approaching quickly, and with that, comes the major stress of finding the perfect date.
Luckily for students, Triton is switching things up this year. The Triton Voice was recently informed that Vice
Principal, Mr. Joseph Celia advised this idea at a recent faculty meeting.
Prom dates will be randomized. There will be an assembly for all juniors and seniors held soon where dates
will be chosen for them. Triton Voice spoke to Mr. Celia to get his reasoning behind this idea.
“We’ve heard about many students stressing out about finding prom dates, and we wanted to relieve some
of that stress,” Mr. Celia said. “We also see this as a fun way for students to branch out and meet new people they
might not be close with.”
This could be quite a controversial change for many reasons. One being students wanting to bring
significant others, or students who just had dates planned already. There’s also the possibility of being paired up with
an ex, which could stir up the pot. We talked to a few Triton Voice members who also knew about this to get their
thoughts.
“I’m actually really upset about this,” senior Beckham Zizza said. “I was really looking forward to bringing
my bestest friend, James Cotter, but now I won’t be able to.”
With Zizza being a senior, this could really ruin his senior prom as well as his relationship, not being able to bring
his love. (Let’s pray for whichever student gets paired up with Beckham, because James doesn’t play around)
On the other hand, some students are quite thrilled about this. Junior Adeline Stapleton feels a sense of
relief.
“I’m secretly happy about this if I’m being honest,” Stapleton said. “Every option I’ve asked has rejected
me, so now I’m guaranteed a date!”
Another student has high hopes for this.
“I’m a little nervous because I’m really hoping to get paired with Peighton,” junior Tim Clark said. “I’ve
been wanting to ask her, but I haven’t had the courage yet.”
There are many different thoughts and opinions on this new solution so we’ll have to see how this all pans
out or if the faculty will deeply regret making this change. Students, keep an eye out for an email regarding the
upcoming assembly where dates will be selected. Happy prom season!

Ava Johnson, Staff Writer & Copy Editor
Hi! My name is Ava Johnson, and I’m a junior at Triton High School.
Outside of school, I love playing sports. I play field hockey, basketball, and softball. Field hockey is my favorite because I get to be with my best friends all the time. Other than playing sports, hanging out with my friends and family is my favorite passing time. I have 3 siblings and a 4-year-old nephew who is so fun to hang out with.
The thing I like most about journalism is that I have the freedom to write about things I care about and value most. I also like being able to talk to different people and get their thoughts and opinions on certain subjects. I hope to make my articles strong enough to get a lot of them in the paper each week. Being a journalist for the school paper is important because being able to write about things you care about and enlighten others is something schools need to bring each other together. Journalism and the media are important because everyone can relate to the same things and become closer to one another!
I’m not exactly sure what I want to do in my future after high school, but I know that I like helping people and I’ve looked into being a forensic psychologist a little bit. I know I want to go to Penn State, but I just don’t really know what exactly I want to do!

Hi! My name is Peighton Hertigan. I’m a junior at Triton High School.
When I’m not in school, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and playing sports. I play both field hockey and lacrosse, but I prefer field hockey. My favorite part about it is the fact that I get to play with all of my best friends. I love spending time with my friends, which includes going to the beach, shopping, or even just having sleepovers every weekend.
I have two siblings, an older brother, who attends UNH, and a younger sister, who is a freshman at Triton. I’ve really enjoyed taking journalism because it’s more like a mini job instead of a class I’m being forced to take. I enjoy having the freedom of writing what I care about, and sharing my ideas and thoughts with the entirety of Triton.
My favorite part of this class has been being able to venture off, and interview all different students, staff, and local people, to get a variety of different views into the paper. I believe that the newspaper brings the Triton community together, and is a very beneficial way of sharing our individual ideas, that create the school we’re all apart of. It’s a very safe, and nonjudgemental place to share our thoughts on different topics, which educates other students at the same time.
I honestly don’t know what I want to major in yet, or work in as a career later on in life, but I know I want to attend a 4 year college after high school. My dream is to attend Penn State with my best friend. I hope to find a way to work with animals, because I’ve always loved them, and had hopes of being a veterinarian when I was younger.
