Last Wednesday at the Graf Rink, Triton hockey took down their long time rival and ended their four-year losing streak against Newburyport in the one of the best ways possible. The game was an all-out battle from start to finish, with both teams playing tough, physical hockey. Triton’s defense held strong, only allowing Newburyport to score twice, only on power play’s, while their offense made the most of its chances. Mason Colby stepped up big, finding the back of the net twice to take the lead for Triton. Every shift was intense, and by the time the final buzzer sounded, the teams were tied, the game then went into overtime. Nothing changed in overtime, both teams with multiple chances but the goalies were preforming very well, not letting anything past them.
With the championship on the line, the game went to a shootout. Both teams traded two chances to score, but could not prevail. That’s when Coach Sheehan decided to put one of his best player’s out to shoot next, Michael Taylor. Taylor skated in, deked out the goalie with a forward-backhand move, and buried the puck for the game-winner, sending the Triton bench into a frenzy. Players flooded the ice, jumping into the boards in front of the student section, celebrating a win that had been four years in the making. After so many tough losses to Newburyport, Triton finally got their revenge and they did it in the biggest game of the season.
