Skippin’ School
Triton Students Leaving School During the Day
It’s the third period of the day. You have a substitute teacher because your teacher is sick. What’s not a better idea than making a Dunkin’ run and leaving school?
Students here at Triton are known to leave during school, whether that’s because they have a study last period, a substitute teacher or are just skipping class. Who knows what the students are up to when they leave school. They could be going to Dunks, or some other place for food and drinks, or going home to take the day off.
Skipping class here at triton seems to be an issue, whether that’s students leaving and coming back or just leaving for the day. Students do get punished if caught however, receiving a detention email or being called down to the main office to receive one. With or without punishment, it seems as though Triton students do it anyway.
Taking a walk around the school recently, the Triton Voice decided to investigate how and when students left school. It was noted that 0 of the Triton doors were left open, being closed and locked, so students could get easy access back into the building. A total of 24 empty parking spots were noted during third period on a Wednesday. This was only the back parking lot. Another 17 parking spots were empty on the side parking lot. These parking spots could be vacant, absent people for the day, or people who have left school already – skipping class.
Throughout the third period, 4 triton students were seen leaving campus in their own form of transportation. Some students were seen with parents driving – those were noted as dismissals – not towards the students actually leaving campus. Only 2 students who previously left campus arrived back. Two Students who were spotted leaving never came back. Students were also seen leaving campus to go towards their vehicles, but then return back to the building.
This investigation only took place throughout one period. Who knows how many more students leave during the day at Triton. Some students leave early because they have studies last, or some just ditch class. Either way, students here at Triton are known to leave campus – whether that is returning back later in the day or going home for the day.
