Halloween Tradition

November 14, 2019

Toy Story, frat boys, and Shark Week. Yup, that sounds like a Triton senior Halloween parade.

On Thursday, October 31 at 7:35 the Triton annual Senior Halloween Parade began. With all-new types of costumes, the class of 2020 kept the tradition going.

“As far as I can remember they have always had that (Halloween parade),” Frederick McAskill Jr a long term AI, said.

As one of Triton’s longest-running teachers, McAskill had been working in the high school since 1982-1983 and had said that it been going on before he was here and still has not stopped. McAskill has seen all the changes with the parade. He was here when they put in place a dress code on the kids. And he has watched some groups of being pulled out because of disobedience to listen to the rules.

Despite those past years, this year ran smoothly with no hick-ups. With crazy costumes also came great bonds with friends. Senior Caitlin White was part of the group Shark Week and told us, “The best part was getting together with my friends and taking pictures because it was a bonding moment”.

Every moment matters to this senior class. These are the time the 2020 class will start sharing their last memories. Some of the class thinks that it should last a little longer because sometimes five minutes is not enough.

“If I could change something I would incorporate a pep rally or something else into the day to make it longer and more memorable,” said Senior Fay Paicos who was part of the Toy Story group.

With Triton being so close to Salem you might think that we would celebrate a month-long with parades and costume balls as The Haunted Happenings website reads. Maybe in the upcoming years, they could bring in these ideas that the seniors leave behind.

Still, without any changes, the senior class still participates to have amazing memories with their classmates and to be a part of something that has gone on for years and years of senior traditions.

Assistant Principal Kathryn Dawe has not always liked the senior parade because it is distracting to the classes sometimes but she believes that is something every class should go through.

“ I do think it’s good. I do think it’s is the beginning of a unified class coming together and doing something together and showing that this is our last year. This is one of the first things we get to show who we are to our school, and so I do think its a very cool tradition that has lasted for quite some time”

— Kathryn Dawe

No matter what the class comes up with for new ideas, for parades, and have everlasting fun. The Triton Halloween parade marks another one in the books with its old traditions and memories that will last forever.
