Worth the Hype?
Are Starbucks drinks worth the high price and are people willing to pay these prices for their desired drinks?

As Christmas is just around the corner, basic holiday drinks are back at Starbucks. Triton Voice asked a few Triton students and a former barista about their favorite drink during the holiday season and whether or not it’s worth the hype.
Starbucks over the past few years has become extremely popular among many younger generations. A few different kinds of drinks have become most popular during this season and many go out of their way purchase them. This includes Caramel Brulee latte, Chestnut praline latte, Peppermint mocha, Eggnog latte, and Gingerbread Latte, and of course Starbucks famous hot chocolate.
When asked what her favorite drink is from Starbucks Carola Burd, former Starbucks barista was quick to say “ Gingerbread Latte. I just like the combination of the gingerbread, the coffee, the whipped cream, and the nutmeg on top.’’ When asked about the high price she said, “ I look at it as a way to treat yourself. Others choose to treat themselves through an alcoholic beverage, because ultimately your paying less for a drink at Starbucks then one from a bar.” Making a trip to Starbucks isn’t a regular occurrence for Burd, but she makes sure to enjoy a few lattes from time to time during the holiday season.
For others their order is more basic but still a good treat during this season. “In the winter I would say that my favorite drink is just a hot chocolate, maybe with some whipped cream on it,” said Senior Colleen McCarthy, who goes to Starbucks once a week. “ I’d say some of the drinks are worth the cost and some aren’t, some of the refreshers are pretty expensive. I feel like the coffees are priced right.” This goes to show that even getting a simple hot chocolate at Starbucks is what some look forward too.
Of course there are many Starbucks lovers around the world but there’s always a few people who can’t quite wrap their head around spending that much money on coffee or drinks in general. “ I don’t even like coffee,” said junior Kaylyn Pesaturo, “I would much rather spend my money on something else. But during the holiday season if I’m looking for a warm drink, I would definitely choose Dunks over Starbucks, the prices are better.’’ Look around next time boredom occurs in class and see whether students are drinking out of Starbucks or Dunkin cups.
