On April 18th there was a discovery of bullet shells at the Essex Tech track meet by a Triton student.

The student that discovered them was sophomore Aidan Gay-Killeen. Gay-Killeen reported that when he found them that “most of them were sitting on the toilet in a stall, and one was in the toilet.”

Stunned at what he found,Gay-Killeen describes his initial reaction as , “um yeah that’s weird I’m gonna go, and I turned around and walked out, being very sketched out,” said Gay-Killeen.

After feeling very “sketched out”, Gay-Killeen seeks for help.

“I first told the people who were also in my race since we had to warm up, and after my race I told other people, and the captains to see if I should report them to our coach. At first I was unsure if they were really bullet shells so I wanted some other opinions so I didn’t cause a scene,” Said Gay-Killeen.

After Gay-Killeen’s race he notified his coach, and word spread of his discovery  and the meet continued.

“Some people were a little weirded out but nobody I talked to seemed to be scared or like really sketched out. On the other hand I was freaking out because who puts bullet shells in a bathroom stall at a high school?”, said Gay-Killeen.

In addition to Gay-Killeen, junior Lindsey Gardella was also shocked and nervous at the meet.

“I didn’t believe it at first, but when I found out it was true I was shocked and confused on how or why they were there,” said Gardella.

However some athletes at the meet like junior Bella Lesinski had no idea of the bullet shells being at the meet until the Triton Voice asked for an interview.

“I just found out about this now lol..I’m so shocked and kinda shook I didn’t hear about this sooner,” said Lesinski.

Along with Lesinski, there was many other athletes who were not informed of what happened and junior Allie Hawkes explained the frustration behind the situation.

“I was shocked that our team was having a meet so close after the incident without much conversation about the incident. Even if nothing bad happened, I think the students should be fully informed at all times,” Said Hawkes.

Principal Brad Morgan of Essex Technical Regional High School told the Salem News that the casings were reported to school officials later in the afternoon following the school hosting two lacrosse matches against North Reading and a three-way track meet with North Andover and Triton Regional High School.

After the incident was reported “Danvers police were called to the scene and are investigating this incident with the cooperation of school personnel,” said Morgan to Salem News.

Although there has not been any additional information that has been released in regards to who owned the casings and why they were there, Principal Morgan did alert parents and students of the investigation.

According to CBS News,  there ended up being a total of thirteen shell casings that was discovered.

As the investigation continues, people are still left with the mystery as to why the casings were there and who they belonged to.
